Breakfast and Lunch = Brunch
In honour of taking a trip back to Scouseland this Sunday, I thought I would guide you to some spots I went to back in uni. These brunch spots hold great memories to me, either catching up with friends or alone in a cafe. So here is my ranking of great brunch spots whenever you are in Liverpool.
1. Brasco Lounge
Mann Island Buildings, Liverpool L3 1BP // https://www.instagram.com/brascolounge/?hl=en
I am aware that you can find a Lounge in a lot of cities but Brasco Lounge is most probably the best one. It’s tucked behind the Waterfront so good plan if you stuff your face and go for a walk after. At Brasco Lounge you can find all the typical brunch foods, avocado toast, full english, eggs benedict… I also remember the tapas menu to be very tasty and inexpensive.
Brasco holds a lot of memories for me, Chloe and I went there for brunch a lot when we lived on Dale Street, I took Lisa there when she came to visit from Australia and I met the girls for that I lived with in my final year for the first time here at Brasco. It is always a good day if you go Brasco Lounge.
2. Bêkas Cafê
136 London Rd, Liverpool L3 5NL // https://www.instagram.com/bekascafe/?hl=en-gb
Bekas Cafe is a Kurdish cafe near uni. They have super nice staff and really great brunch if you can sick of the normal eggs and toast, Bekas serves your typical brunch a Middle Eastern twist. They also sell fresh baked sesame and pistachio cookies which is such a reward after a hard day of revising or just a sweet treat.
I remember having a really good brunch at Bekas the day before my graduation day, I had the normal English Breakfast but in hindsight I should have gotten the Kurdish Breakfast or the Arabic Breakfast. They also serve karak chai which is always good in my books.
3. Mother Espresso
82 Wood St, Liverpool L1 4DQ // https://www.instagram.com/motherespresso/?hl=en-gb
Tucked behind Concert Square, Mother Espresso is an independent coffee shop that is a wonderful find behind the best of Liverpool’s night outs on Wood Street. I highly recommend their matcha, they make their matcha using a traditional wooden whisk which intensifies the flavour - a rare find.
The vibe here is great for solo brunchers, the open plan cafe brings bright light to the space which makes it easy to sit down with your laptop or read a book; the person next to you would also be doing the same. I remember brunching alone in my final year of uni panicking that I haven’t started my essay yet but I did remember that the matcha did cheer me up!
4. Hardware Coffee + Kitchen
40B Renshaw St, Liverpool L1 4EF // https://www.instagram.com/hardware_liverpool/?hl=en
The pancakes are amazing! I remember going and receiving really great service and the berry pancakes being so nice. I again solo brunched here and had a great time. No notes - will probably go again.
5. Leaf
65-67 Bold St, Liverpool L1 4EZ // https://www.instagram.com/leafonboldst/?hl=en
Leaf is unmissable on Bold Street, everyone knows it. I’ve only had brunch there but they also do dinner which I haven’t tried before. Everytime I go there I always have really great food from pancakes, avocado toast to full English. The drinks I remember are also really delicious. If you want a seat though, you need to book or go early - they are always so busy.
Special mention to The Little Shoe on Bold Street which has now unfortunately permanently closed. It was my go-to brunch spot in my first year of uni, they had fresh seeded bread I would buy after devouring my full english fry up. It was delicious.
So here’s are some of my fave brunch spots, if you have any other spots you would like to recommend, I am always down to take a trip to Liverpool.
